The state playoff schedule: 1A | 2A | 3A | 4A

1. Simeon (24-3) 2

Kezo Brown was great in the city championship game, but it was a true team win. Several different players made big plays in the second half, as was noted toward the bottom of The Public League’s feature story on Brown.

The Wolverines are the No. 1 seed in the Class 4A Thornwood Sectional. They will begin the state playoffs on Tuesday, Feb. 28, in the Eisenhower Regional.

2. Morgan Park (19-6) 4

Mustangs coach Nick Irvin on his team, heading into the Class 3A state playoffs: “I think right now, we’re going to be right there to win a state championship. Everybody is expecting Ayo (Dosunmu) to be the one-man band, but it’s turned into a team. Everybody’s doing what they have to do to win.”

The Mustangs are the No. 1 seed in the Class 3A St. Rita Sectional. Their first game of the state playoffs will be on Wednesday, March 1, in the Evergreen Park Regional.

3. Curie (23-3) 1

The Condors struggled to score against Morgan Park’s long, athletic defense in the city quarterfinals. Their next game will be against Jones or Morton in the Class 4A Curie Regional. Curie is the No. 1 seed in the Proviso East Sectional.

4. Whitney Young (20-7) 3

Simeon’s Messiah Jones was a force in the Dolphins’ 60-49 loss in the city semifinals on Friday night. They will next play on Tuesday, Feb. 28, in the Class 4A Whitney Young Regional semifinals against the winner of Riverside-Brookfield and Von Steuben.
