1. Phillips

J’Bore Gibbs and Monte Harrington are two new offensive players poised to do big things for the defending state champs.

Week 1: Friday, Aug. 26 at Fenwick (at Triton College), 7:30 p.m.

2. Curie

The two-time defending city champions will be tested early with non-conference games against Raby and Morgan Park.

Week 1: Friday, Aug. 26 vs. Raby (at Hanson Stadium), 4:15 p.m.

3. Simeon

The talented Wolverines’ non-conference slate is the toughest of any CPS team. It includes games against Oak Park-River Forest, Marist and Phillips.

Week 1: Friday, Aug. 26 at Oak Park-River Forest, 7 p.m.

4. Morgan Park (1-0)

Third-year coach Terry Atkins has never lost a game in the Illini Prairie State. The Mustangs have reloaded and are once again favorites to win it.

Week 1: Morgan Park was scheduled to play Steinmetz on Saturday, Aug. 27, but the Silver Streaks forfeited the game.

5. Raby

The Raiders’ young, talented roster has the potential to do special things this season.

Week 1: Friday, Aug. 26 vs. Curie (at Hanson Stadium), 4:15 p.m.

6. Solorio

St. Laurence transfer Robert Chayka, a senior slot receiver, should make an already-potent Solorio offense even better.

Week 1: Friday, Aug. 26 at Ridgewood, 7 p.m.

7. Hubbard

Coach Elton Harris’ 22nd season begins with a stiff test from Evanston. The Wildkits lost four Division I players to graduation and could be prone to an early-season upset.

Week 1: Friday, Aug. 26 at Evanston, 7 p.m.

8. Payton

A big question, entering the season: can Payton continue its run of success in the Illini Heartland after losing stalwart linebacker Mike Kalanik?

9. Kenwood

The Broncos are up-and-coming. Week 1 will be a big test.

Week 1: Saturday, Aug. 27 vs. Rich East (at Lane Stadium), 3:45 p.m.

11. Vocational

This is the best team Larry Williams said he’s had in his five seasons as the CVS head coach. Long-time Dunbar coach Glenn Johnson is the Cavaliers’ offensive coordinator.

12. Westinghouse

The Warriors will be battle tested in the first three weeks, then move into the Illini Land of Lincoln — arguably the deepest conference in the city.

Week 1: Saturday, Aug. 27 vs. Whitney Young (at Westinghouse), 2 p.m.

13. Lincoln Park

The way the Lions’ numbers have skyrocketed — from 18 to 67 in just one year — is very promising. It’s also an outlier in the Public League.

Week 1: Friday, Aug. 26 vs. Lindblom (at Hanson Stadium), 7:15 p.m.

14. Lindblom

CJ Rutherford could be one of Chicago’s best wide receivers this season.
